SACRAMENTO – Starting January 2, 2024, the Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) will start construction as part of the Folsom 15-Minute Light Rail Service Project.

Starting January 2, 2024, the Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) will start construction as part of the Folsom 15-minute Light Rail Service Project. Crews will add a passing track at the Glenn/Robert G. Holderness Station. According to the report, SacRT says this is an important step in achieving 15-minute light rail service for all Folsom area stations.

This construction is slated to finish in Summer 2024. During construction, light rail service will be temporarily suspended between the Historic Folsom and Iron Point stations. There will be supplemental shuttle bus services for passengers affected by the temporary service suspension. In addition, road closures will begin on January 2nd and last until the project is completed in the Summer. These include the “northbound stretch of Folsom Boulevard, between Bidwell Street and Parkshore Drive” as well as Glenn Drive “between Folsom Boulevard and Coolridge Drive.” During this time, two north bound lands that are closest to the tracks will be closed. In order to ensure safety, “redirected traffic will utilize the adjacent southbound lanes for both directions of travel.”

Once the Folsom 15-Minute Light Rail Service Project finishes next Summer, SacRT will implement 15-minute service at all Folsom area stations. These will have state-of-the-art new low-floor light rail trains.
