ATLANTA –– A bridge issue on the NS mainline has suspended Amtrak Crescent service south of Atlanta through at least today (Thurs., 10/3.)
The bridge under repair is near Slidell, La. Amtrak reported that the Amtrak Crescent (No.19), which operates between New York and New Orleans, would travel no further south than Atlanta “due to a bridge maintenance issue on the Pearl River Bridge.”
Before the decision to terminate the train in Atlanta, Amtrak reported Monday’s (9/30) No. 19 (southbound) was terminated in Meridian, Miss., which was announced on the Amtrak Alerts stream on X.com. Then, the southbound departures of No. 19 from New York were terminated in Atlanta on Oct. 1 and 2, with termination in Atlanta again on Oct. 3.
While Amtrak has provided one-way bus service from Atlanta to New Orleans since Oct. 2, additional bus service between New Orleans and Atlanta will be provided Oct. 3.
