SAN DIEGO - SANDAG added new routes to alignment proposals for the LOSSAN Rail Realignment Project in Del Mar.
According to NBC San Diego, this comes as a response to the community to improve the original three alignment proposals. SANDAG recently released a value analysis study on the Del Mar train tunnel with public comments open on February 28th. The study includes 13 new route proposals, with some of those proposals “refining” original plans. The report states Del Mar mayor Terry Gaasterland supports Alignments 10 and 14 because “those would not run underneath homes.”
Alignment 10 runs 25 miles and would cost between $30 and $45 billion. Alignment 14 would run deeper into the Solana Beach trench and would cost between $7 and $9 billion. Mayor Gaasterland said, “We, as Del Mar residents, will be asking and demanding: Look at these alignments that take the train out from under people’s homes. . . For the very first time, it’s looking at taking a railroad from Oceanside all the way down to Sorrento Valley right along I-5.”
