Michael Baker International (MBI) has been awarded an $8 million contract to provide services to Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) projects.

The three-year contract will require MBI’s services in engineering, construction management and inspection on SEPTA projects throughout the Philadelphia region.

MBI is expected to supplement SEPTA’s in-house project management staff, respond to emerging conditions and develop cost-effective, safe and timely solutions while completing projects.

“It is our collaborative spirit and strategic growth that enables Michael Baker to provide SEPTA with the resources needed to execute SEPTA’s ‘Rebuilding the System’ program,” said Mark Alisesky, market lead for railroad and transit at MBI. “We believe in cross-office and cross-practice collaboration to achieve customer satisfaction, employee development, safety, infrastructure improvements and innovation. This approach has proven highly successful in our partnership with SEPTA.”

Officials say MBI invested heavily in its six regional offices to better serve SEPTA’s needs and that the company is “committed to the strategic growth of its construction management and railroad and transit practices.”

MBI has previously worked on several SEPTA projects, including the Crum Creek Viaduct Replacement, Market Street Elevated Reconstruction and Stone Arch Bridges Rehabilitation. The company has also collaborated on projects along the Keystone Corridor, in which SEPTA is a major stakeholder.
