BARSTOW, Calif. - In conjunction with BNSF, SBCTA is working to replace the North First Avenue Bridge in Barstow, California.

In conjunction with BNSF, SBCTA, or the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority, is working to replace the North First Avenue Bridge in Barstow, California. As of reporting, construction is around 40% complete since its beginning in January of this year. Additional construction work includes a new two-lane structure, demolishing the old bridge once the new one is up and running, and the construction of new approach roadways. The new bridge will improve ADA access and “re-establish a safety connection between the two parts of the City of Barstow – the residential north portion and the downtown business district.” The bridge has functioned as a main thoroughfare for schools and services in the area as well as for Fort Irwin, and the new bridge is scheduled to be completed by Fall of 2024. SBCTA reports that the project is funded through federal, state, and local funds as well as via the Federal Highway Bridge Program. $5.6 million comes from Measure I funds.
