ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Norfolk Southern announced a milestone in its efforts to restore service to Asheville, North Carolina after heavy flooding wiped out sections of track last September.

According to a post on LinkedIn, the Class I announced non-revenue Train 98A passed through Asheville’s River Arts District. Last fall, when Hurricane Helene swept through the area and brought historic flooding, the entire area was underwater.

COO John Orr said, “This couldn’t have happened without the dedication of our railroaders who have taken great pride in restoring service to Asheville. Their hard work and commitment were not only vital to our recovery but also to this community that many of them call home.”

RT&S has reported on the damage that was sustained to the area after the storm last fall and how railroads have been working to rebuild the infrastructure and restore service to the area.
