The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has approved construction authorization at three grade crossings in Carroll, Coshocton and Cuyahoga counties.

Columbus & Ohio River Railroad (CUOH) will install mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates at the County Road 254 grade crossing in Oxford Township, Coshocton County. CUOH will be responsible for completing construction by March 12, 2014.

Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad (W&LE) will install warning lights and gates at the State Route grade crossing in Carroll County. Funding for this upgrade will be shared among PUCO, the railroad and the Ohio Rail Development Commission.

Flats Industrial Railroad Company (FIRC) will upgrade eight-inch incandescent lights to 12-inch LED lights at the Columbus Road grade crossing in the city of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County.

FIRC and W&LE will be responsible for completing the projects by June 12, 2014.

To increase public safety during the construction of the projects, PUCO will assist the local governments with the cost of improvements, such as rumble strips, illumination, improved signage or other safety enhancements at the project locations.
