Written by Jenifer Nunez, assistant editor

The U.S. House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee Chairman Jeff Denham (R-CA) will hold a hearing January 15 to examine challenges facing the California High Speed Rail project.

The project is the largest in the high-speed intercity passenger rail program administered by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), but recent state court actions have raised new concerns regarding availability of funding to complete the project.

The subcommittee will explore the risks posed by these recent developments and the FRA’s plans to protect the federal taxpayers’ dollars at the hearing, entitled “A Review of the Challenges Facing California High Speed Rail.”

Witnesses to testify include Hon. Joseph Szabo, administrator, Federal Railroad Administration; Dan Richard, chairman of the board, California High-Speed Rail Authority and Alissa Dolan, Congressional Research Service.
