SACRAMENTO, Calif. –– On Thursday, RT&S ran a story about $4 billion federal dollars already allocated to the California High Speed Rail Authority project in the process of being clawed back by the Trump Administration. California is now suing the FRA to prevent that from happening.

You can read Thursday’s story here.

A press release from Gov. Gavin Newsome said that the lawsuit is based on California’s belief that pulling the $4 billion in funding is simply punishment from the Trump Administration “motivated by President Trump’s personal animus toward California and the high-speed rail project, not by facts on the ground.” Newsome added that this is “another political stunt to punish California.”

In a Reuters report, U.S. DOT Secretary Sean Duffy is quoted as saying “We have to pull the plug.” He was later quoted as saying “Naturally, Gavin Newsom’s plan is to waste even more taxpayer dollars defending this boondoggle. See you in court, Gavin.”

RT&S will continue to monitor and report on this story as events warrant.
