NASHVILLE –– Radnor Yard, a critical hub in the southeastern CSX network, is receiving additional power-operated switches.

CSX has announced that it is “advancing a major infrastructure upgrade” at Radnor Yard in Nashville, Tenn. The railroad is installing additional, new, power-operated switches in the north end of the receiving yard that will be controlled by the Yardmaster.

This effort is part of a 2026 capital improvement project that will supplement power-operated switches already in place and create potential to expand the technology to other areas of the yard, according to the railroad.Twelve new power-operated switches will be placed across 13 tracks and eight inside crossovers.

The switch replacement will continue through approximately Q1 2027, resulting in a total of 37 power-operated switches at Radnor. The railroad says that electric switches reduce manual tasks, improve operational control and create a safer work environment.

CSX Assistant Superintendent Jason Tardy said “This project eliminates exposures, which will lead to improved safety within our operation.” If you’re operating safely 100 percent of the time, that equals efficiency.”
