CSX train strikes abandoned semi-truck, then derails

On Monday, Feb. 7, near Waycross, Ga., a CSX freight train with two locomotives and 39 cars struck an abandoned semi-truck, derailing a locomotive and some intermodal cars.

RT&S reached out to CSX for a statement, and received the following from CSX media relations:

“Just before 1:00 p.m. Monday, a CSX train struck an unoccupied semi-truck on the S. McDonald Avenue crossing in Coffee County, Georgia derailing several intermodal cars and one locomotive. The CSX train crew was transported to a local hospital for treatment. CSX personnel are onsite working to restore the area. The train consisted of two locomotives and 39 loaded intermodal cars. The incident is under investigation.”
