UP to begin Nebraska crossing project

Written by Jenifer Nunez, assistant editor

Union Pacific will begin a$1-million track improvement project in Nebraska March 10 and will start at the Webb Road crossing and progress eastward through Grand Island. The work is anticipated to be completed in three weeks.

Improvements include adjusting both mainline tracks to be level, adjusting industry tracks to improve the roadway profile and resurfacing roadway approaches for several feet beyond the tracks to improve smoothness for motorists. These improvements will result in longer periods between future large maintenance projects and fewer emergency crossing closures due to rail failures.
