CARSON CITY, Nev. – We reported earlier today that the Pennsylvania House passed a rail safety regulation bill that is now being considered by the state Senate. Across the country in Nevada, Gov. Joe Lombardo vetoed a similar bill that arrived on his desk for signature.

According to the Reno Gazette Journal, Lombardo called the bill “another policy overreach from the Legislature.” Transportation unions objected to the veto, and AFL-CIO Executive Secretary-Treasurer Susie Marinez said “[w]ith this legislation, Nevada could have been a leader in railroad safety; now, we run the risk of becoming a national headline in the future.”

Read the governor’s veto.
