Written by Jennifer McLawhorn, Managing Editor
STAMFORD, Conn. - CTDOT will work to rehabilitate an out-of-service railroad switch tower on the Metro North New Haven Line.
The switch tower rehabilitation will allow for use as a railroad crew building. Crews will make improvements to the building to include a “storage area, storage room, spaces for workstations, work benches, kitchenette, restrooms, and closets for mechanical, plumbing, and IT/communications.” Additionally, crews will make structural repairs, add fire protection systems, plumbing and HVAC systems, and a new electrical service with a standby generator and telecom service.
At the site, crews will remove and replace existing stairs, a concrete sidewalk, and a new water service connection with a proposed sanitary sewer connection to Dock Street. The rehabilitation design is slated to be completed in October 2026 with construction starting in spring 2027. The project will be completed with state funding.
