GDOT Announces Notice of Funding Opportunity for FY26-27

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the FY2026/2027 Georgia Freight Rail Program project applications.
According to the GDOT, the Georgia Freight Rail Program (GFRP) was established to “bolster Georgia’s rail network by enhancing State investment in freight rail for public benefit.” Funding via this program is subject to annual appropriations and is made available to Class Is and short lines in the state.
Funds that are collected under the Locomotive Fuel Tax are distributed; 67% goes to Class Is by way of a Memorandum of Agreement upon project proposal approval, and 33% of funds are distributed to short lines in Georgia in accordance with GRFP processes.
The application period began April 1, 2026 and will conclude after 60 days on June 1, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Awards will be announced in October 2026.
