WINDSOR, Calif. - The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) Windsor Extension has been awarded an Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of California (ACEC California).
STV served as a design partner with SMART and provided civil, structural and rail engineering, station architecture, roadway and grade-crossing design, ADA-compliant access, safety enhancements, and drainage. The project sought to expand transit access in North Bay communities through a 3.2-mile extension. The extension runs north from the Sonoma County Airport Station to downtown Windsor and includes a multimodal station, five rebuilt rail bridges, a pedestrian underpass, two pedestrian bridges, and a 2.6-mile non-motorized pathway to connect nearby residents to the network.
The project will now advance as a finalist for ACEC California’s Golden Bear Award, “the highest recognition for engineering achievement in the state.”
STV’s Transportation West practice vice president and transportation infrastructure leader Sissel Bernsten-Heber, PE, PMP said, “We are proud to be recognized for an initiative that opens up new transit opportunities for North Bay communities and that reflects how STV is driven to deliver infrastructure solutions that truly better the communities we serve.”
