MTA announced the completion of renovations at the Far Rockaway-Mott AV subway station in Queens.

When asked, customers cited cleanliness as one of the top improvements that would increase ridership and improve overall customer satisfaction. To meet this, NYCT implemented the Re-NEW-vation program. The program is one way the New York City Transit is working to improve riders’ experience. Starting in the Summer 2022 in the Bronx on the B and D lines, the re-new-vations included cleaning and upgrading nine stations along the line. The program works during weekend closures and uses the time to perform repairs and upgrades in the subway stations during the 55-hour window with service resuming on Monday.

The work at Far Rockaway-Mott Av A Subway station in Queens included the following:

  • Track work and ADA upgrades
  • Fixed concrete tripping hazards
  • LED light fixture installations
  • Service and emergency lighting cleaning
  • Rectify water damage
  • Cleaned and repainted surfaces
  • Renovated employee facilities

President of New York City Transit, President Richard Davey commented on the Re-New-vation program, stating that “feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from re-NEW-vation efforts, and we look forward to moving closer to our goal of faster, cleaner and safer service.” In response, New York City council majority whip Selvena M. Brooks-Powers, Chair of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure appreciates “President Davey’s commitment to rider experience, especially in undeserved corners of our transit network like Far Rockaway. The Mott Avenue stop received a much-needed makeover this weekend, and I look forward to continued investment by the MTA in the quality and cleanliness of our stations.”

This completion marks the twenty-ninth station to be part of the Re-New-vation program, and the NYCT is working to complete fifty more by the end of this year.
