The Honolulu City Council voted eight to one in favor of authorizing the execution of the $1.55-billion Full Funding Grant Agreement with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for the Honolulu rail project.

According to the FTA’s Annual Report for fiscal year 2013, the Honolulu Rail Transit Project is among the top five New Starts Projects in the nation in terms of funding. The $1.55 billion in federal funding will account for almost 30 percent of the total project cost.
