Canadian National train carrying HAZMAT material derails in Detroit

Detroit firefighters are still dealing with a derailed Canadian National train. The accident happened the morning of Dec. 12 on Scotten Avenue near Clark Street. No injuries have been reported, but some of the rail cars are carrying HAZMAT material. A HAZMAT team has been on the scene.

A total of 12 cars have derailed, and according to the Detroit Fire Department five of those cars contain HAZMAT material. Canadian National claims that none of the cars are carrying dangerous goods.

Emergency responders, DTE Energy and Canadian National have set up a command center, and officials are saying it might not be until nightfall before the accident site is cleared. The investigation into the derailment is ongoing. More on this story as it develops.
