WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Department of Transportation announced it will invest $2.04 billion into modernizing rail infrastructure across the country.
Through these investments, the USDOT will support projects that reduce congestion, improve regional rail infrastructure, increase passenger ridership, and develop safety programs to reduce trespassing.
The FRA’s Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program has invested close to $6 billion in rail infrastructure since 2017. “Revamped criteria” within the program will include a focus on safety, development, and job quality.
A Notice of Funding Opportunity outlines said criteria for applications. These can be submitted by 11:59pm EST on Monday, June 22, 2026.
