MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Pandrol has extended its partnership with Sicut North America, Inc. Pandrol is still Sicut’s sole North American distributor.

In a press release, Pandrol announced it will continue to act as Sicut North America’s distributor in a five-year extension to the existing partnership. Sicut manufactures railroad ties from “a unique blend of recycled plastics and reinforced with glass fibre” at its new facility in Kansas. Manufacturing both main line and specialty switch ties, Sicut is able to supply both Class 1 and mass transit railroads.

Sicut ties are enabled to reduce embodied carbon through the asset life and therefore improve track asset value. In comparison to hardwood and concrete, the ties are completely recyclable. Due to this, there is the advantage of increased durability and the ability to withstand any track conditions.

Vice President of Sales & Marketing in North America, Breen Reardon, expressed the excitement over the continued partnership, stating that “it brings together the expertise and resources of both our companies to deliver a truly premium and sustainable solution for our customers in North America.”

CEO of Sicut, William Mainwaring also expressed his enthusiasm, commenting that “we are delighted to be extending our partnership with Pandrol North America, a company which is synonymous with innovation and quality across the globe. We believe that together we can revolutionise the North America railroad tie market. . . “By using Sicut ties, railroads could use up to 250 tonnes of recycled plastic waste (about 12 million waste plastic bottles) per mile of track. This will save up to 800 American oak trees from being unnecessarily felled – what’s not to like!”
