KEARNY, N.J. - Work progresses on the Portal North Bridge.
Amtrak shared an update on LinkedIn of the Portal North Bridge project in Kearny, N.J. Over the last three weeks, crews have added 800 tons of ballast and installed 1,200 linear feet of track and ties.
RT&S has reported on the Portal North Bridge project over the last few years. The new structure “will replace the current 114-year-old swing bridge. The new bridge will eliminate the need to open and close, a process that results in service delays.” The Portal North Bridge is seeking an opening service date in March 2026.
Amtrak thanked its partners at NJ Transit for their work between site visits. Below is a gallery of images, courtesy of Amtrak.
