FENNER, Calif. - BNSF announced that it has worked to replace a 350-foot-long, double-track concrete beam bridge with new steel beams and track panels.

The work took place on BNSF’s Southern Transcon in Fenner, California with teams working in 60-hour windows over two weekends. BNSF stated the bridge was replaced in two phases with one track at a time. Doing it this way allowed 150 trains to keep moving on the other track.

BNSF’s Director of Bridge Construction Mike Herzog said the work “was challenging given the remote location, but now that it’s completed, this new bridge will help keep our intermodal trains moving for generations to come. Shout out to all the crews, BNSF’s project manager Tim Fanning and contractor Kraemer North America for helping to keep the U.S. supply chain moving!”

The Class I states the work was completed ahead of schedule. Below are images, courtesy of BNSF, that show the bridge replacement work.
