CORONA, Calif. - BNSF worked with the City of Corona to build a suspension bridge as a way to reduce traffic congestion in the McKinley Street intersection.
As a result, the street is elevated over the BNSF right-of-way. The project was approved and publicly funded for $80 million. Then, engineers “fabricated the bridge span off-site while columns were installed on-site.” Early next year, BNSF says city contractors will continue work on the top of the bridge. Once the suspension bridge is complete, it will “provide increased capacity and uninterrupted traffic flow, a reduction in noise disturbances, improved emergency response times and enhanced safety.”
