BALTIMORE - The MDOT MTA released the May 2025 Purple Line Newsletter that contains construction updates for Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, a business spotlight, and grant opportunities.
Montgomery County
Updates in Montgomery County for the month of May include photos of a new trail bridge concrete deck, a stair and escalator canopy for the new WMATA mezzanine at the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center, the Lyttonsvile Station and Lyttonsville Place Bridge, and the Silver Spring Library Station where two sets of embedded tracks were installed.
Prince George’s County
In Prince George’s County, crews continue to install track through the Baltimore-Washington Parkway underpasses and at the RIverdale Park-Kenilworth station. At the New Carrollton Station, crews work with a rail threader to lift and guide “rails into place so they can be fastened to the track structure.” Embedded tracks were also installed across southbound lanes of Baltimore Avenue in College Park.
Grant Opportunities
According to the release, the MDOT has announced the first recipients of the Purple Line Small Business Grant Program. Having launched this past February, the program “aims to support small businesses along the Purple Line alignment most directly impacted by construction of this critical light rail line.”
These awards range from $1,000 to $4,000, totaling $1 million. Over the course of four years, the program will seek to invest $4 million into local businesses. Local small businesses are encouraged to reapply if they were not selected for the first round of awards, and those who have not applied yet are encouraged to do so when the next cycle opens on June 2nd. These applications are due June 27th.
