VANCOUVER, British Columbia – TransLink will replace four escalators at the Commercial-Broadway SkyTrain Station as part of its Commercial-Broadway Escalator Replacement Project.

TransLink has announced it will replace four escalators at the Commercial-Broadway SkyTrain Station as part of its Commercial-Broadway Escalator Replacement Project. The current escalators have been in use for over twenty years. Starting Monday, December 18th, crews will work on replacing the two escalators that connect the concourse level to the Millennium Line platform. During this time, SkyTrain service will not be impacted other than congestion from crowds. In Fall 2024, crews will replace two more escalators that connect to the Expo line platforms. TransLink reports the project will be completed in Fall 2025.

As part of the project work, two fare gates at the East Broadway Avenue station entrance have been removed from service. This will last about one year, but nearby fare gates will still be in service. According to the report, the new escalators will be more durable and have “a variable speed option for power-saving and improved accessibility for maintenance to minimize downtime.”
