Union Pacific plans tie replacement project in Montana

Union Pacific plans to invest $1.7 million in 2016 to improve its transportation infrastructure in Montana, which will enhance employee, community and customer safety and increase rail operating efficiency.

 

Union Pacific’s planned investment covers a range of initiatives including $1.7 million to maintain railroad track in the state. Key projects planned this year include a $1.7-million investment in the rail line along the Montana Subdivision south of Lima to replace 11,419 ties.

The investment in Montana is part of an ongoing investment strategy. From 2011 to 2015, Union Pacific invested more than $5.8 million strengthening Montana’s transportation infrastructure.

“We constantly evaluate our customers’ needs to make targeted investments that enhance our efficiency and deliver the goods American businesses and families use daily,” said Wes Lujan, Union Pacific vice president public affairs, Western Region. “Continuing to aggressively invest in our infrastructure is an important element in Union Pacific’s unwavering safety commitment.”

The Class 1 plans to spend $3.75 billion across its network this year and has detailed state plans for Wisconsin, Minnesota, Wyoming, Utah, Washington state, New Mexico, Idaho, Oregon, IowaArizona, Missouri, Louisiana, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois, Arkansas, California and Texas.
