UP performing close to $10 million of trackwork on Nebraska, Wyoming line

Union Pacific will strengthen transportation infrastructure in Wyoming and Nebraska by investing $9.6 million in the rail line between near Scottsbluff, Neb., and Shawnee, Wyo. The project, funded entirely by Union Pacific, began July 13 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.

The railroad will replace 68,000 concrete crossties, install 26,000 tons of ballast and renew nearly a half mile of rail in various curves. The project is one of nearly 1,500 Union Pacific will complete across its 32,000-mile network this year to help improve train operating efficiency, reduce motorist wait times at crossings and enhance safety.
