EGGER Wood Products, an Austrian manufacturer of wood products used in furniture, wood construction and flooring, will be locating in North Carolina. The decision settle in Davidson County was made easier by key partnerships, which include companies such as the North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR).

NCRR is one of several partners involved in helping to bring the company to the area where it is expected to create as many as 770 new jobs and invest $700 million at the I-85 Corridor Park.

EGGER Wood Products requires freight rail service on site. The I-85 Corridor Park will connect to the railroad line adjacent to Norfolk Southern’s Linwood Yard. Through the NCRR’s economic development initiative, NCRR Invests, the company is investing approximately $3.5 million in the construction of a lead track and switches to connect the manufacturing facility to Linwood Yard and the NCRR line, which is served by Norfolk Southern. NCRR says the addition of this lead track will not only provide access to freight rail service to EGGER Wood Products, but will begin to open the remainder of the I-85 Corridor Park to future opportunities for freight rail users.

“Through our NCRR Invests initiative we collaborate with our economic development partners to ensure that North Carolina is competitively positioned to meet the freight rail infrastructure needs of new and expanding business and industry, creating jobs for the citizens of our state,” said Scott Saylor, president of the North Carolina Railroad Company. “We are proud to be a partner in this exciting opportunity for economic growth in Davidson County and the Triad.”

“Having our own production facility in North America is vital for EGGER to tap into the market and become a significant player for the growing demand in the U.S. for wood-based materials,” said Walter Schiegl, EGGER Chief Technology Officer and member of the executive board. “Our sales activities in the U.S. have already proved our product range is highly attractive for architects, designers, wholesalers and industry customers. With the Davidson County production site, we will be able to enhance our customer relationships, ensuring product availability and speed of delivery. Our goal is to position ourselves as the leading brand for wood-based solutions in the U.S., as we are already in Europe.”
