MTA crews will be replacing four grade crossings on the light-rail line in the Hunt Valley area. The five affected light-rail stations are Warren Road, Gilroy Road, McCormick Road, Pepper Road and Hunt Valley.
MTA crews will replace worn rails and install improved rail foundations. This work is needed to maintain safe, reliable operation of the line in the future. This section of the Light Rail opened in 1997 and the upcoming project is the first major work since the system opened.
On the subway, MTA will replace interlockings on the track between Reisterstown Plaza and Rogers Avenue stations. The project is expected to last from May 3 to about July 3.
The project includes replacing the switch machines and mechanics, rails and the replacement of wood crossties with concrete ties and corresponding foundation. During the repair work, WMATA trains will share a single track through the work area, but passengers should experience minimal delays.
The total cost of the light-rail and WMATA subway work is $4,685,000.
