National engineering firm Maser Consulting P.A. (MC) has hired Francis J. Miller, III, P.E., to lead its rail engineering service division.

Maraliese Beveridge, spokeswoman for MC, says Miller’s appointment went into effect Sept. 26. He currently holds the role of director of the Passenger and Transit Functional Group for the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) and is based out of MC’s Hamilton, N.J., office. Miller previously served as chief track engineer and director of high-speed rail for Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc., a global professional services firm.

Miller joins MC having acquired more than 30 years of experience in major railway construction, design, inspection, planning and project management. He specializes in transit and railway engineering, and has been involved in major rehabilitation, design-build and new start projects for transportation systems throughout the country.

“Maser Consulting has been focusing on building up its railway survey and engineering service division through a combination of geospatial and conventional survey methods specific to commuter transit, light- and heavy rail and street car systems,” said Leonardo E. Ponzio, vice president and director of survey services for MC. “The addition of Frank Miller to our team to oversee the services we already have in place is truly an asset.”

MC offers advanced survey services with the use of GPS, geospatial surveys including mobile LiDAR and the AMBERG GRP system.

The engineering firm says it uses standard and original solutions to aggregate track geometry and corridor data in rail and tunnel settings. MC has worked with various railroad clients including Amtrak, CSX Transportation, Chicago Transit Authority, Long Island Rail Road, Metro North Commuter Rail, Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific, WMATA and many others.
