CHICAGO - Metra will reopen 103rd St./Rosemoor Station on March 3rd as the 95th St./Chicago State station will close for rehab and expansion.

Metra stated in a release that the 103rd St./Rosemoor Station on its Electric Line will open on March 3rd after more than a year of construction. Additionally, the 95th St./Chicago State University Metra Electric station will close for two years. This will allow for a $33.4 million rehabilitation and expansion project to take place.

The 103rd St./Rosemoor station is the second to reopen under a $33.9 million contract with Elgin-based IHC Construction for work at three stations. These stations include 79th St./Chatham, 87th St./Woodruff, and 103rd St./Rosemoor. On December 16, 2024, the 79th Street Station reopened. On the same day, 87th Street closed for construction. All three stations will have ADA-accessible entrances with elevators and new stairs. Additionally, once completed, the stations will be equipped with new composite deck platforms, lighting, and signage. Funding was provided through the Rebuild Illinois capital program.

Under a contract with John Burns Construction of Westmont, the $33.4 million project will expand the 95th St./Chicago State University Station and improve accessibility. Funded through the Rebuild Illinois capital program, Cook County, and an FTA All Stations Accessibility Program (ASAP) grant, crews will begin demolition on March 3rd. After approximately two years of construction, the station is slated to open in the third quarter of 2027. The project seeks to “replace the station’s existing head house, platform, and stairs; create a new street-level entrance on 95th Street with a new storefront, enclosed entrance area, and a new elevator.” The platform will have a full-length canopy to protect passengers from weather. Additionally, the project will better connect the station to the Chicago State campus with the creation of a new tunnel entrance, walkway, and bike path.

Metra Executive Director/CEO Jim Derwinski said, “We are prioritizing improvements on the Metra Electric Line to make the line more accessible to persons with disabilities. . . At the same time, the 95th Street project is an opportunity to grow our relationship with the Chicago State University and build a station that better connects students to educational opportunities and increases mobility options for area residents.”
