CHICAGO - Fluor and Walsh Construction Company joint venture reached Substantial Completion on Chicago Transit Authority's Red and Purple Line Modernization (RPM) Phase One project.
Earlier this year, RT&S reported the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) had sued the federal government over the Red Line Extension (RLE) and RPM project pause and to restore funding. On March 30, funds for both projects were unfrozen. Now, Fluor Joint Venture recently detailed a milestone for the RPM Phase One Project. Along with Fluor and Walsh Construction, Stantec worked on design, Hitachi on signaling, and Meade served as electrical contractor.
Fluor’s Infrastructure business President Shawn West said, “Reaching Substantial Completion on this landmark project is a testament to the strength of our partnerships, the commitment of our teams, and our shared focus on delivering transformational infrastructure. . . The RPM Phase One project will have a lasting impact on Chicago’s transit system and the communities it serves. I could not be more proud of what this team has accomplished.”
The RPM project is one of CTA’s largest investment, consisting of new Red and Purple line elevated track and a new bypass structure located north of Belmont station. Additionally, the project includes a complete rebuild of the Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn and Bryn Mawr stations and elevated track and installing a new signal system between Howard and Belmont. Final completion for Phase One of the project is slated for November 2026.
