TORONTO - Construction on four underground stations along the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension has started.
According to Metrolinx, the future station sites are at the Martin Grove, Kipling, Islington, and Royal York intersections. Crews have begun excavating these sites, digging out space for station boxes. These boxes are “underground structures that will make up the main body of the station.” As well, there will be two elevated stations on the 9.2-kilometer extension of Line 5 Eglinton: one at Scarlett Road and Jane Street and an open-air station at Renforth Drive.

Construction on the final set of tunnels to connect the extension to Line 5 at Mount Dennis Station is still underway. The extension turns Line 5 Eglinton into an east-west rapid transit line for the Greater Toronto Area, says Metrolinx. Overall, the project adds seven stations to Line 5 Eglinton.
