The Wilmar Bypass consists of a 2.8-mile section of new track and a wye, “a triangle of track used for turning trains.” Before the bypass was constructed, crews travelled to the center of town to get to the Wilmar terminal in order to change direction. Now, the bypass allows for more efficient service and fewer occupied crossings.
