WATERLOO, Iowa – $750,000 from the USDOT’s NAE Program will go toward relocating a CN railyard to the outskirts of town.

The City of Waterloo will receive $750,000 through the USDOT’s Neighborhood Access and Equity (NAE) Program “to lay the groundwork for a potential” CN railyard relocation from “downtown Waterloo to the outskirts of town”. Currently, the location of the CN Railyard is north of the downtown area between East 4th St and martin Luther King Jr. Dr and causes delays and raises safety concerns.

Last October, the city of Waterloo applied for a grant to relocate the railyard, which can be found here. The application also included a study for a railroad crossing improvement study that would investigate “the railyard, the rail lines leading into the yard, associated at-grade railroad crossings, and their effects on the surrounding neighborhoods.”
