Roanoke’s WSET ABC 13 News is reporting that Norfolk Southern laid off almost 70 employees in Roanoke yesterday morning. This follows a layoff of 130 in September, and 45 in April.

An NS spokesperson said “these furloughs are consistent with the railroad’s organizational realignment and current business levels.” The spokesperson also said “Recently, this adjustment required reductions in select areas of the business, particularly in locomotive maintenance and repair.”
