Jeff Fahs, PLA, LEED AP, is the new director of HDR’s site design group, where he will be tasked with providing strategic direction and overall leadership for the practice, focusing on growing and diversifying the practice.

Fahs has been with HDR for 18 years and most recently served as leader of the firm’s Chicago, Ill., site design studio.

HDR says Fahs is well known for his design leadership and collaboration on large, integrated teams. He also participates in business development and project management, mentors team members, plans the work and facilitates project assignments.

His work involves projects spread across North America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

“The ability to make a positive impact on people’s lives through building and landscape projects is incredibly fulfilling,” Fahs said. “Doing so from within an A/E environment means we get to see the tangible results of our creative work. We can observe it, participate in it and show it to our friends and family.”

Throughout his time at HDR, officials said Fahs has provided diverse leadership roles on many of the firm’s largest and most complex projects.

He was also responsible for establishing and directing the growth of the Chicago site design practice during the past 16 years.

Fahs is a member of the Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects and a former education chair; a member of the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects; a member of the Chicago Architecture Center; and a former board member of the “Cornerstone” young professionals’ group.

He has lectured at the University of Georgia, University of Trinidad and Tobago, University of Nebraska, Iowa State University and the J.S. Morton East High School in Chicago.
