With the completion of the Early Station Improvements project, Metrolinx announced Feb. 9 that two major components of that work are now improving GO station accessibility.

To ensure that all commuters can use GO platforms safely, new yellow tactile edge tiles have been installed along the platforms at 20 stations. The platform improvements have been put in place at stations along the Barrie Line, Kitchener Line, Lakeshore East Line, Lakeshore West Line, Milton Line, Richmond Hill Line and the Stouffville Line.

Elevators have been upgraded and modernized at six GO stations along the Lakeshore East Line, Lakeshore West Line and the Milton Line.

Metrolinx said the agency is consistently working to enhance accessibility for passengers by removing obstacles, preventing new obstacles from forming.

When developing its multi-year accessibility plans, annual accessibility status reports, and accessibility planning, Metrolinx said the agency takes into consideration public comments. Metrolinx has begun an accessibility audit to better determine where network-wide enhancements are needed in order to assist future accessibility efforts, a release said.

The new platform edge tiles installed as part of the ESI project also result in more dependable elevators and a better customer experience, in addition to helping Metrolinx satisfy its design standards, the agency said.
