Archinect and the Houston Chronicle are reporting Texas Central has signed a deal with an Italian company to design, build, and put in the Texas Bullet Train, a 240-mile line between Dallas and Houston.

The Texas Central is a private company, and has engaged Salini Impregilo, along with Lane Construction, Impregilo’s American subsidiary, to do the work.  The deal is valued at $14 billion.

Once the train is running, it will provide 90-minute service between Dallas and Houston.  While there is much work remaining, including various government approvals, the project leaders are pushing forward to do the initial design work, with the hope of breaking ground in 2020.
