SAN FRANCISCO – In an effort to build 19 canopies at its stations, BART installs a second canopy at Embarcadero Station.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) announced its Embarcadero Station has a second, new canopy to protect the entrance near Beale St. As part of a project to build 19 canopies over BART stations, work on two more canopies is currently underway. The canopy project was approved in January 2020 by the BART Board of Directors.

Designed to enhance the station’s appeal and provide beneficial shade from rain and sun, the “canopies are also intended to protect new escalators that will be built at the stations as part of a separate project to refurbish/replace 41 escalators with more modern, reliable units.” The canopies were funded through a “voter-approved Measure RR funds, San Francisco Prop A funds, and state Prop 1A funds.”
