Brightline celebrates the ribbon-cutting for two new stations in South Florida on Dec. 20, launching service in Aventura and Boca Raton the following day.

The rail network has existing stops in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

The Aventura station will allow commuters to travel between all of Brightline’s stations with an estimated travel time to Miami Central of about 20 minutes, according to a news release. The station will also offer express service during the morning and evening commute periods.

The 34,000 square-foot station features a pedestrian skybridge that transports guests from the vertical transportation towers to the train platform. Brightline is also designing a new pedestrian bridge that would connect the platform to the local Aventura Mall.

In October 2019, the Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust approved the use of $76.7 million of surtax dollars for the station’s development, according to a news release.

The new Boca Raton station is located on a 1.8-acre site and spans 22,000 square-feet. With the launch of service, commuters are expected to be able to travel between Boca Raton and Miami Central within about an hour, Brightline said.

Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer took to Twitter to signal his excitement for the launch of Brightline’s two latest additions and shared photos of the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“Thrilled to open the Brightline station in [Boca Raton] and grateful for hard work by many to get it open on schedule,” Singer wrote.

Trains that stop at the Aventura and Boca Raton stations are set to run every two hours, and trains that travel from Miami to Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach will run hourly, Brightline said.
