As new transit lines are added and older ones need maintenance, Metrolinx schedules construction work on weekends to minimize customer impacts.

That’s why temporary schedule changes will be in place on the Lakeshore West and East GO Lines.

This weekend (Saturday, Oct. 15 and Sunday, Oct. 16) train service will be hourly between Union Station and West Harbour, with some temporary changes to the new Niagara Falls schedule.

Lakeshore East GO Train schedules will be adjusted for early morning and late evening trips on both days and connection times between trains on both lines will be longer.

On Sunday, Oct. 23, buses will operate instead of trains between Union Station and Oakville.

These buses will serve all stations except Long Branch, Mimico, and Exhibition, which have TTC access.

Construction will also mean some schedule changes for Niagara Falls trips on both Saturday and Sunday.

Schedules will also be adjusted on the last weekend of October and the first weekend of November. Passengers traveling on those weekends are advised to check for updated schedules before departing.

As always, gotransit.com and triplinx.ca are available to help. The Service Updates page offers real-time information.

Customers can tap on with PRESTO before a replacement bus trip, and then tap off afterwards, just like on a train trip.

During these weekends, work will be done to connect the new Hazel McCallion LRT to Port Credit GO. Regular maintenance and bridge tie replacement along the Lakeshore West Line will also be done.

Niagara Falls trips are not able to service St. Catharines GO from Oct. 11 until spring of 2023.

This is due to track work being completed by CN Rail associated with the rehabilitation of the bridge crossing the Welland Canal in St. Catharines.

To make sure time is used efficiently, Metrolinx arranges schedules so that several work crews are in action simultaneously. The Verona System, a construction technique that is new to Canada, will be used to reduce the time needed for construction work at Port Credit GO.
