San Clemente Landslide Leads to Passenger Rail Service Suspension

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. – Amtrak and Metrolink passenger rail service were suspended on January 24, 2024 due to a landslide in San Clemente.

Between Oceanside and Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo stations, both Amtrak and Metrolink service were suspended because of another landslide, according to a report from 10 News San Diego. Katrina Foley, Orange County Supervisor, said all passenger rail was suspended after fallen debris damaged the Mariposa bridge. She said, “With less than one month into the new year, the railroad tracks in South County are already closed due to a landslide in San Clemente.” As of reporting, there has not been a timeline set for the cleanup work or when passenger rail service will be operational between those two stations.
