Texas Supreme Court rules in favor of eminent domain for Texas Central.

The beleaguered Texas Central Railroad won a victory in the Texas Supreme Court, the first positive development since the railroad's former CEO, Carlos Aguilar, resigned earlier this month.

The court decided that the planned railroad does have eminent domain as it ruled that the Texas Central is, indeed, a company that will operate an interurban electric railroad.

The High Speed Rail Alliance reported that “Landowners who oppose the plan for a bullet train through central Texas filed the suit in 2020. The project has been under a cloud of uncertainty ever since.” The rail company plans to build a high-speed rail line between Dallas and Houston, and needs land to accommodate the 240-mile railroad.

While many believed Aguilar’s departure sounded the death knell for the railroad, The Texan reported the railroad, after the departure of Aguilar, said “Texas Central remains open for business under its new management, is continuing to seek further investment, and is moving forward with the development of this high-speed train.” Now, the Texas Supreme Court has given the road a shot in the arm, but it’s uncertain if the patient will recover.
