The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority announced upcoming service changes on Jan. 26 set to take place in February on the Orange, Green, and Red lines as well as the Haverhill Commuter Rail Line.

Due to continued demolition work of the Government Center Garage by private developer HYM Construction, Orange and Green line service changes will take place next month in the downtown Boston area.

Orange Line track and rail fastener replacement work will also be carried out during this time. Red Line service will also be impacted during the weekend of Feb. 25-26 in order for the transit authority to perform power, lighting, and drainage work near Alewife in addition to rail replacement work near Harvard, a release said.

Haverhill Commuter Rail Line service changes will take place between Haverhill and Reading from Feb. 4-12 while the MBTA completes Automated Train Control work.

In order to accommodate the private Government Center Garage work that affects both the Orange and Green lines, the MBTA says it has been collaborating closely with the city of Boston and the developer.

Orange Line train service will be suspended between Ruggles and North Station during the weekends of Feb. 4-5 and Feb. 18-19. The MBTA said it will take advantage of the fact that Orange Line service will have already been halted to allow for the private Garage demolition work by extending the service change to Ruggles in order to complete additional track work, including the replacement of rail fasteners between Back Bay and Ruggles stations, a release said.

Orange Line train service will also be suspended between Back Bay and North Station on Feb. 11, from start of service until 8 p.m. Orange Line commuters can access Green Line service between Copley and Government Center stations during these weekend service outages, MBTA said. During the weekends of Feb. 4-5 and Feb. 18-19, free shuttle buses will also operate between Copley on the Green Line and Ruggles on the Orange Line, making stops at Back Bay and Massachusetts Avenue stations.

Red Line trains will be replaced with free shuttle bus service between Alewife and Kendall/MIT stations during the weekend of Feb. 25-26. The planned weekend service outage will allow crews to perform power, lighting, and track drainage work within the tunnels near Alewife in addition to rail replacement work that will remove a speed restriction near Harvard Station on the southbound side of the tracks, a release said.

Haverhill Commuter Rail Line trains will be replaced with free shuttle bus service between Haverhill and Reading Stations from Feb. 4, through Feb. 12, to perform ATC work.
