TORONTO - Metrolinx continues its GO Expansion by beginning signaling work along the Lakeshore Lines and major construction on the Lakeshore East Line.

According to Metrolinx, the Lakeshore East Line construction includes Trackwork, stations, bridges, and grade separations. In seeking to build a better network, Metrolinx says weekend closures will be necessary to allow for uninterrupted work windows.

During construction, crews will work on three grade separations at Burlap, Galloway, and Finch Avenue East as well as upgrading stations at Exhibition, Long Branch, Bloor, Aurora, King City, and Maple. Elsewhere, Woodbine, East Harbour, Bloor-Lansdowne, St.Clair-Old Weston and Caledonia stations will undergo construction as well. There will be service extensions at Kitchener and Bowmanville, and crews will also construct a brand-new south concourse at Union Station with wider platforms and increased track capacity.

Over the years, RT&S has reported on Metrolinx’s GO Expansion. Last summer, Metrolinx crews began installing reinforced concrete caissons, building retaining walls, and drilling piles as part of major construction for the East Harbour Transit Hub. Over the last several years, Metrolinx has also completed other projects for its GO network. These include twin rail tunnels under Highways 401 and 409, a rebuilt Bay concourse and Union Station bus terminal, and three grade separations at Davenport Diamond, Rutherford Road, and Steeles Avenue East.

Additionally, Metrolinx has added new or improved stations at Bloomington, Old Elm, Confederation, and Mount Dennis. Upgrades have also been made at Rutherford, Bradford, Bramble, Milton, Weston, Cooksville, Kipling, Unionville, Milliken, Agincourt, Kennedy, and Eglinton GO.
