Questions are being raised around whether NJ Transit will be able to meet the December 31, 2020 PTC installation and operational deadline after the New Jersey state auditor says that PTC testing on the railroad is not on schedule, according to POLITICO. A software component for the PTC system has not been completed by one of NJ Transit’s vendors.

The original deadline for installation and operation was December 31, 2018, but those railroads that had achieved a certain amount of progress toward the design and installation of PTC by 12/31/18 were given a two-year extension to complete the work. Kevin Corbett, Executive Director of the railroad says that NJ Transit can meet the December 31, 2020 deadline. He added that the railroad is working on a new timetable proposal for the Federal Railroad Administration.
