The Woodinville-based Harbor Pacific Contractors, Inc. has been awarded a design-build contract by the Sound Transit Board to construct the parking garage at the agency’s Sumner Station.

The $49 million garage, which is scheduled for completion in early 2026, will serve Sound Transit Express service and Sounder S Line passengers. At the station, the 602-stall garage will add 505 net new parking spaces. Currently, Sumner Station’s available parking is frequently full very early in the morning, the agency said in a release.

“We’re pleased to ease access to our vital Sounder service to Seattle and Tacoma for East Pierce County commuters,” said Sound Transit Board Vice Chair and University Place Councilmember Kent Keel. “Giving people more options to avoid the region’s notorious congestion along major corridors benefits us all.”

In the spring, businesses and residents near Sumner Station can expect more information about the project’s progress and community impacts. Early construction activities are expected to begin this summer, Sound Transit said.

Sound Transit previously contributed $7.5 million to the Sumner station area for pedestrian, bicycle, lighting, and ADA improvements. The city of Sumner completed that work.

In addition to awarding the contract, the Sound Transit Board baselined new Sounder-serving garages in Kent and Auburn for delivery in 2027.
