Rideau Transit Group has submitted an outline to the city of Ottawa on how it plans on fixing the problems with the light rail system. However, officials want more.

One item that was absent from the checklist was a firm timeline. Rideau Transit Group provided blocks of time and dates, but those need to be tightened, and some issues have to be taken care of a lot sooner, like supplying auxiliary power units which is currently impacting two trains. Replacing defective power inductors may not be complete into early 2021, and city officials want the work done earlier. Long-term maintenance programs are being recommended for the overhead wire system, switch heaters, temperature control in the train cabs, vehicle onboard cameras and other elements.

Rideau Transit Group will be meeting with city officials to try and sort out the scheduling. In the meantime, Ottawa is not making maintenance payments to the contractor.

Rideau Transit Group also is blaming the COVID-19 pandemic for some of the delays.
